چکیده
background low back pain (lbp) is one of the most common complaints that is reported by all age groups. objective this study was aimed to investigate the efficacy of epidural steroid injections (epsi) related to different volume injections for treatment of acute low back pain with radiculopathy. patients and methods the study is consisted of seventy five patients who had acute discogenic pain. three groups composed namely group 1, group 2 and group 3. all patients were assigned to one of the groups randomly and recevied combination of triamcinolone (80 mg) and bupivacaine (12.5 mg) as a single epidural dose. volume of 10 ml, 15 ml, and 20 ml epidural injections were used for group 1, 2 and 3 respectively. the efficacy of treatment was assessed with visual analog scale; vas (o = no pain, 10 = unbearable pain) straight leg elevation test; slet (0° = worst, 85° = best), and oswestry disability ındex; odi (0 to 20%: minimal disability, 80 to 100%: bed bound patients) before and 2 weeks after the epidural steroid injections (epsi). conclusions different volumes of epsi in patients with acute low back pain associated with radiculopathy causes significant pain relief in all groups. there was no superiority between the groups. temporary radicular pain we encountered can be explained by high volumes. results fifty seven 57 (76%) female and 18 (24%) male were entered to the study. two weeks after the procedure, significant improvement was observed in each group regarding the results of vas, slet and odi. temporary radicular pain, not required treatment, was reported for 10 patients; 40% of group ii and 18 patients; 72% of group iii, but not reported in group i (p < 0.001).

comparison of transforaminal and parasagittal epidural steroid injections in patients with radicular low back pain
conclusions the pil epidural injection is as effective as tf epidural injection in improving pain and functional status, in patients with chronic lumbosacral low back pain, due to disc degeneration. results effective pain relief [numeric rating scale (nrs) < 3] was observed in 77.3% (95% ci: 67‒90.5%) of patients in pil group and 74.2% (95% ci: 62.4 - 89.4%) of patients in the tf group (p = 0.3...
متن کاملComparison of Transforaminal and Parasagittal Epidural Steroid Injections in Patients With Radicular Low Back Pain
BACKGROUND Epidural steroid injection (ESI), including transforaminal (TF) epidural injections and interlaminar (IL) epidural steroid injections are commonly performed procedures for the management of lumbosacral radicular pain. Parasagittal interlaminar (PIL) approach could enable higher ventral epidural spread, with fewer complications than TF. OBJECTIVES This study aims to compare the effe...
متن کاملMineralocorticoid Receptor, A Promising Target for Improving Management of Low Back Pain by Epidural Steroid Injections
AIM OF REVIEW Low back pain is a major health problem in United States and worldwide. In this review, we aim to show that mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) activation has a critical role in the initiation of immune and inflammatory responses, which in turn can impact the effectiveness of the currently used steroids for epidural injections in low back pain management since most steroids activate M...

[Caudal epidural steroid injection in the treatment of chronic discogenic low back pain. Comparative, prospective and randomized study].
OBJECTIVE There is no consensus on the treatment of chronic low back pain of disc origin in the medical literature. The few prospective, randomized, controlled studies evaluating the effectiveness of caudal epidural steroid injections (CESI) have obtained contradictory results. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of CEI in reducing pain and improving the associated disability. M...
متن کاملInterlaminar epidural steroid injections for low back pain in rural Ontario.
INTRODUCTION We sought to document the efficacy of interlaminar epidural steroid injections (ESIs) for the relief of low back pain in a rural population. METHODS We conducted a prospective observational cohort study with brief follow-up telephone interviews at 1, 3 and 6 months after interlaminar ESI. RESULTS A total of 47 ESIs were administered to the 24 participants. In an intention-to-tr...
